       an Antonio is pleasantly situated on a picturesque         ……river where hills meet coastal plain, in a borderland where flesh cleaves spirit and spirit yokes flesh. San Antonio is made of humble stuff, assembled by the code of need or chance, innocent of vanity. Its people elude reckoning. We are known by our works, begun and begun again and begun again. We have made our peace with entropy. San Antonio is a place of ghosts and shadows, fitful dreaming, sighs. It wears its past like a mask. It’s a hard place, of hard toil, hard hands, hard heat. Our seasons are dust, flood, haze, and thirst. And the streets are paved with asphalt.   Concrete and asphalt crack as deep clays heave; fissures cradle seeds and shoots. Incandescent sun, fluorescent moon touch mute walls; they wake and speak. Shadows emit a luster. The voids teem. San Antonio is renowned for its beauty. Though imaginary, it is accessible by highway and rail.
